Cat Spay & Neuter
One unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 kittens in 7 years. Only half of the kittens and cats in shelters will be adopted. Millions of healthy adoptable cats are euthanized each year in the U.S. simply because there are not enough homes for all of them.
Spaying (procedure for female) can be done as early as 8-10 weeks old , but will vary depending on individual cats and clinic preferences. A female cat can become pregnant at 5-6 months.
Spay Benefits
• Reduces the number of unwanted kittens/cats
• Eliminates risk of ovarian and uterine cancer; decreases risk of mammary gland tumors
• Eliminates risk of pyometra (uterine infection) which can be fatal; recommended treatment is spaying
• Helps cats live longer, healthier lives
Neutering (procedure for male) can be done as early as 10 weeks, but will vary due to individual cats and clinic preferences.
Neuter Benefits
• Reduces the number of unwanted kittens/cats
• Eliminates or reduces risk of spraying and marking
• Eliminates testicular cancer; decreases chance of prostrate disease
• Less desire to roam and fight, reducing injury and transmission of FIV (feline aids) acquired through bite wounds
• Helps cats live longer, healthier lives.
